Let Me Turn Your Writing Into AI Art

Exploring the Creative Possibilities of Text-to-Image AI: A Writing Exercise

So I’ve been on a bit of a quest lately to explore the various manifestations of AI, most notably text and image generation.

On the image/art side, I’ve tried a couple of mobile apps and I’ve also tried DALL.e and, most recently, midjourney.com

Midjourney is by far the one that’s impressed me the most. I’m going to write an article soon about how to use it and with some examples of the art I’ve generated with it and how I’ve utilised that art in another experiment to set up my first-ever Etsy store to see if people will buy prints of AI art (it’s still very early days, but not a single sale so far!).

These systems work by converting human-inputted text prompts into images. Amongst all of the arguments about whether this is truly art given that it’s generated by a soulless computer, it occurred to me that nobody is recognising that the human text input could be considered a form of creative writing: a short descriptive text eliciting an image in the human (or artificial mind).

Perhaps it’s a good way of honing our writing skills and our imaginations. So let’s play a game:

Reply to this story with your text prompt. I will input it into midjourney and then update this article to include the image generated from your writing with your text prompt as its caption.
