They say that Sherlock Holmes is one of the most recognised fictional characters around the globe. That famous silhouette of him wearing a deerstalker hat and smoking a Meerschaum pipe is known to all (even if neither item was mentioned explicitly in the original texts).
When we think of Holmes, we think of his vast intelligence and his lightning-fast deductive reasoning skills. He was focused and singular in his approach to solving a case and, despite not being the most empathetic of people, fostered a relationship with Doctor John Watson that is one of the great friendships of literature.
